The diamond industry is one that is as controversial as it is confusing. With diamond producers preaching the value of a diamond from billboards, shop keepers, and popular culture placement –it is hard to stay abreast of what really counts when it comes to purchasing a diamond outside of the messages we are consistently bombarded with every Christmas and Valentine’s Day.


And even more so today, because it appears as though the celebrity divas and pop culture icons proclaim “bigger is better” –when that is hardly the case. Size and therefore weight only play one out of four factors in how we discern the value of a diamond. Let me re-emphasize that put very simply; bigger is not better. In fact, for most of us, it may be worse!

It can be really easy to stay fashionable on a budget these days with all of the wonderful resale and consignment stores that are out there. These stores often sell designer products, new and used, at discounted prices.

If you haven’t been to a resale shop in a while, you may want to take a stroll through one. You’ll often find more high end items at stores with ’boutique’ in the name, but that isn’t a written rule. Shop for items near the end of the season before the shops switch over to the next season’s clothing–you may find discounts. Many resale and consignment shops offer coupons in local papers or on social media, and some of them may have frequent shopper programs also. These are other great ways to help you shop more frugally when it comes to fashion.
